About Me

Please Ask God

We have just held a national election and now have a Conservative majority government headed by Stephen Harper.  His roots in evangelical religion are well known as are his beliefs in Strauss economic theory.

As a Canadian, particularly one of a highly discriminated against minority, I find it difficult to reconcile social conservatism with religious belief.  Every religion I know of asks people to believe in god.  Now, god is presented as loving of his people, caring and just.  The Christian god gave us the foundations of Judeo Christianity with the Ten Commandments and Christ followed that with the Beatitudes presented in his Sermon on the Mount.  It is difficult to accept that anything beyond these takes precedence since, one was delivered by God the Father and the other by God the Son.  By any measure, to have lived a life to these teachings is a life well lived.  So, my questions for the Prime Minister now that he has power over the land are:

Mister Prime Minister, guided by your deeply religious beliefs will you:

  • End poverty for all Canadians?

  • Ensure that the young and elderly alike are taken care of so that all of their basic needs are met?

  • Ensure that all Canadians have full access to healthcare both fairly and equally?

  • End discrimination in Canada for all through the Charter of Rights and Freedoms?

  • Bring our First Nations needs to the fore so they too can be fully a part of Canada?

  • Create long term growth for Canada through education accessible to every Canadian?

  • Foster a climate of scientific development and growth so that Canada can help others in the world?

  • Present Canada on the world stage as a leader for peace, not peacemaking?

  • Show that Canada holds no boundaries for its people and therefore promotes this to other nations as a standard to be achieved?

  • Place the needs of Canadians above those of business?

  • Protect Canadians from unfair and/or predatory business?

  • Assure the future safety of Canadians from crime by focusing on rehabilitation as opposed to punishment?

  • Create wealth in Canada by promoting development of ideas and business from within then protecting those from forces external to our borders?

  • Assure all Canadians that housing will be not only affordable but available?

  • Protect Canadian jobs regardless of the origin of the employer?

  • Forever end the practice of temporary and "contract" jobs so that all Canadians have an equal opportunity for employment and security for their families and their future?

And finally, since you know that not all Canadians subscribe to Judeo-Christian beliefs,

  • Allow Canadians the ability to make free choices based upon their own conscience and beliefs within the laws of the land?

So Mister Prime Minister, will you please ask God why these ideas among so many others cant be accomplished within a country as rich as this one.  When you get an answer, please let me know.  I really do want to know.  I am sure that God would approve of your taking care of your fellow man.
